Access For All

We have over 20 years previous experience in the hotel industry in the UK. Our hotel had 2 bedrooms which were almost fully accessible but each had limitations. So, when designing this house great care was taken to ensure full accessibility where possible.

All door openings and terraced areas are either level or gently sloping. The front doors are 90cm wide, patio doors are 1m wide and all internal doors are 80cm wide.

Casa Aguia & Casa Cegonha

All bedrooms measure 4.9m x 3.5m. Each bedroom in Casa Aguia can have either twin or a large double bed. Casa Cegonha bedroom has a double bed. All have been furnished to allow ample freedom of movement.

Casa Aguia Bedroom 2 and Casa Cegonha bedroom both have en-suite shower rooms. The W. C.’s have a 1m space to the side with grab rail adjacent. The washbasins have  open spaces beneath and the level floored showers have grab rails and an adjustable height shower head. For your safety the shower units are thermostatically controlled.

In the en-suite of bedroom 1, to comply with current building regulations, we have had to install a bath with shower over and a bidet beside the W. C. We are aware that this may cause problems for some guests and would ask that you discuss your requirements with us in advance, please.

The kitchen, however, is fully accessible. All crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils are stored within large pull out drawers with space to the side, the hob is dropped in height with open space beneath and the sink also has an open space beneath.

The built in oven is set at 50cm for ease of access and there is a 75cm high work surface for food preparation. At the opposite end of the kitchen is a dining area with ample freedom of movement.

Next to the dining area is the lounge and all seating is at a height of 50cm but can be raised if required.

All rooms within Casa Aguia and Casa Cegonha have 1.5m turning circles.

Outside is a large shady terrace for alfresco dining or relaxing, beyond which are lawned areas, sun terraces and a shady pergola adjacent to our specially designed swimming pool. The pool uses natural salt and has the salt content of approximately 10% of that of the sea (further information is provided in our Visitor Information Folder).

When designing our pool we sought the advice of a professional, himself a wheelchair user. One long side and one short side of the pool is level with the terrace, as with most other pools. The other long side, however, incorporates a gentle exterior slope such that the edge of the pool is then 50cm above ground, which continues along the remaining short side. The pool ‘wall’ has a 60cm wide seating area on top making side to side access from a wheelchair to the seating area and then to the water possible for many with little or no assistance. The water level is also close to the top of the pool making it much easier to leave the water, again with little or no assistance.

However, should you require our help then we are always on hand to assist if you need us. Furthermore, should you prefer to use a pool lift then one can be arranged for you.

Visitor Information Folder

Casa Aguia has a Visitor Information Folder that includes details of accessible beaches, restaurants and places to visit. Some are more accessible than others and so a full description of what you can expect to find at each one, is included.
It also includes information regarding the medical back up services available locally - hospital/health centre, pharmacy etc ,should you require it.

Other Services We Can Provide

Apart from being at your service at all times during your stay, should you need us, we can also either provide or arrange hire on your behalf of a range of equipment that you may need. A full list, with prices is given on the Mobility and Medical Aids page.

Car Hire

If you wish us to arrange a hire car for you with hand controls please indicate on the main booking form.
