Guest Reviews & Testimonials

Please find below a selection of reviews and testimonials provided by some of the guests who have stayed in our country house accommodation for their holidays.

"We found Casa Andorinha  a very comfortable and well equipped little hide away. The owners, who live in the main house, were very helpful and keen to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. There is no shortage of things to do and plenty of information literature available in the cottage. Our week passed far too fast."

Recomendo (e espero repetir).

"Oasis" Unexpected (translation)
"Vale da Cegonha is an unexpected oasis of tranquility and well-being in rural Alentejo: excellent for those who need a retreat away from the city routine, the dictatorship of the clock and links to cyber dominated activities.

The villas are clean and well equipped, the hosts are attentive and extremely friendly, the pool is refreshing, there is a grill to prepare succulent regional pork, there is shade to read, sleep or play and the starry sky at night (which the city light pollution makes us forget) are more than enough reason to build camps and change your life for a few days.

The location (close to IC1, midway between Évora and Faro) means that the villas area good base from which to explore the Alentejo region.
I recommend (and I repeat recommend).

Excellent accommodation with disabled visitors in mind
Penny and Greg at Vale da Cegonha provide really good information on their website and via e mail .On arrival we enjoyed a warm, thoughtful and hospitable welcome. As a couple with one of us using a wheelchair, our villa was everything we could have wanted. All areas were accessible inside, outside on the patio and down to the pool. Greg and Penny checked every detail to ensure we had what we needed. The location is rural, offering a peaceful break away from it all in an un-commercialised area of Portugal

Holidays in Portugal
We are a French family of two adults and two teenagers who enjoyed a lot our stay in this comfortable accommodation fully equipped for person on a wheelchair.
We have definitely appreciated Penny and Greg's hospitality, the countryside, sunshine, and quietness.

Pets' owners:- Bonita the sheep who loves her "parents'" home, Max the dog who can't stop playing football and Domino, the discreet cat, were also part of this unordinary accommodation.

We specifically recommend it for the disabled persons.

Peace and Quiet. Vale da Cegonha - and the storks are real!
A most relaxing holiday in very pleasant surroundings.
The driveway has to be taken with a little care, but when you arrive you can be nothing but pleased.

Ourique, which I think is the nearest village/town is well served with small cafes, banks etc and on the edge of the town there is a large supermarket.
We did not venture very far as we were only there for five days and wanted the peace and quiet.

The accommodation is extremely clean and very well finished.
Penny and Greg could not do enough for us, very friendly and unassuming.
When we stayed in June we expressed a concern about the possibility of mosquito's. No more said before Greg was fitting screens to the windows just in case.

What better service can you ask for.
To make a great holiday, just make sure you have good wine, bread and cheese, sit with your family and friends and take in the fantastic sunset.

Comfortable, charming casa.
Penny & Greg Chapman are the perfect hosts – there when you want them to be but leave you to enjoy yourself alone if that is what you prefer.

The accommodation is very well presented and immaculately clean, with good sized rooms. The pool looks inviting but as we have visited in December and March we have not been brave enough to enjoy the views from the pool as yet.

Ourique is a wonderful introduction to the Alentejo and if you decide, like us, that you would like a piece of Portugal yourself then try the “Homeseekers” package offered by the Chapman’s. Their helpful knowledge is affordably invaluable.

Really Excellent
It is often difficult for handicapped people to find an accommodation which offer calm and relaxation during their holidays. Penny and Greg have built one where also disabled can lean back and enjoy a few marvelous days in Portugal.

The house is absolutely wheelchair accessible (there are no thresholds) and offers very much space to move in a wheelchair. Especially the bathroom and the perfectly equipped kitchen have to be emphasized.

Last but not least it is certainly the kindness and the heartiness of Penny and Greg (who will always find a solution for every problem which may occur during your holiday, I am sure) which make me judge Casa Aguia as excellent and one of the best accommodation I ever visited before.

“Lovely spacious accommodation. Absolutely ‘5 star’. Hospitality as good as ever. We will be back”

I honestly couldn't fault your hospitality and the thinking you had put into the accommodation from an access point of view - certainly for the majority of Independent Spinal Injured visitors I think you have it pretty well covered, difficult for me to comment on other groups.

I think the balance you have struck between being a comfortable villa for a holiday but with the thought about requirement for a wheelchair user is superb and I would have no hesitation in recommending you to able bodied or disabled friends alike.

An added benefit having a budding engineer on site to fix anything the cobbled streets of Lisbon or other surrounding times may throw at a wheelchair - Greg your bic washer is holding up - I have since had new tyres. You made everything easy great information on service and accommodating requests including car hire so Thank you

"Just this words are enough, Very good accommodation for a very good price! Recommend to everyone!"
